You guys asked for more Instant Pot recipes so here you go!!
No one is paying me to say this (hah) but I TRULY think this recipe alone is worth the price of the Instant Pot. It’s just so easy. We love ribs and even though I have a great slow cooker recipe already, it takes hours. This, on the other hand, takes about an hour – start to finish. The ribs actually cook for 35 minutes but then you have to factor in the time it takes for the pot to heat up and cool down…so about an hour overall. Still, that is not bad! And they are so, so, so tender….Adam took one bite, looks at me and goes, “If I wasn’t an Instant Pot believer before, now I definitely am!!”.
Speaking of Adam, he took the money shot for this blog post and I think he did a pretty good job. I made these around 4:30pm and right when they were done, got all caught up with the kids so Adam took over the photography. Thanks, babe. š
You only need four ingredients to make these awesome ribs: just the ribs, themselves, chicken broth, garlic salt and your favorite barbecue sauce.
I really love this barbecue sauce from Trader Joe’s! Stubbs Sweet Heat is also really great.
I plan to make these bad boys again really soon. They were a hit with the whole family — you guys should have seen the look on Luke’s face when we handed him a rib. He was literally shaking with excitement. I am not making this up! I should have snapped a photo.
Serve these ribs with sweet potato grits and sauteed collard greens. You’ll thank me later!
- 2 racks babyback ribs divided into three or four rib sections
- 1.5 cups chicken broth
- 2 tsp garlic salt
- 1 bottle of your favorite barbecue sauce
-
Rub the ribs all over with the garlic salt.
-
Place the trivet in your Instant Pot and pour the chicken broth in.
-
Stack the ribs into the Instant Pot on top of the trivet - it might be a tight squeeze!
-
Turn Instant Pot to MANUAL for 35 minutes. When the timer goes off, do a NPR (natural pressure release). Preheat your broiler to high.
-
Place the ribs on a baking sheet and douse with barbecue sauce. Really, use a lot of sauce! I used the entire bottle for two racks of ribs. Get them good. Sprinkle sea salt on top.
-
Broil for 5 minutes.
-
Serve ribs with additional barbecue sauce on the side!

March 9, 2017 at 6:50 amYum! Definitely trying this! Do you think I could throw them on the grill instead of the broiler? If so, how long?

March 9, 2017 at 6:55 amI do! I would do 5-10 minutes – they will already be cooked through – you’re just browning them a bit. š You could also do the oven at 500.

March 9, 2017 at 7:44 amWe do that (put them on the grill when finished) – first we char them a bit on both sides (3-ish mins per side) and then add the sauce (it burns so quickly) and give them a couple more minutes total.

March 10, 2017 at 7:37 amThis looks AMAZING! I am going to run to TJ’s tonight to get everything I need to make these for Saturday night dinner. One questions – if I do just one rack of ribs, is the timing the same. I’m an Instantpot newbie (made only a few things) and want to make sure i get it right. Thank you, Jenna!

May 22, 2017 at 9:04 amI made these last night with beef ribs and they turned out great! Well, when I actually cooked them. I forgot the chicken broth at first (I was feeding my 1.5 yr old and meal prepping for the week at the same time), and after the cook time and NPR, I opened the IP and found raw ribs. It took me 10 minutes and a million Google searches to figure out that my IP wasn’t broken. I had just forgotten the broth! After another 35 minutes and 20 minute NPV, I finally had my ribs. We loved them! Will be making again.
