1. Wear brand new shorts and sandals to the lake.
2. Leave an open jar of fish sauce in the fridge.
3. Substitute baking powder for baking soda. It’s just a bad idea.
4. Put all your undergarments in a hotel drawer….and then promptly forget about them until after you drive the six hours home.
5. Get your laptop or kindle anywhere near a water source.
I don’t want to talk about it.
Thank God for these.

July 11, 2011 at 1:34 pmI’ve done the baking soda/power trick however the rest sounds just awful. Especially the undergarment part.

July 11, 2011 at 1:34 pmOh I hope your kindle didn’t drown or suffer and water damage.
Fish sauce. Whoa. I bet things smell a little….hmmmm….in your house right now 🙂 Good luck with the aroma 🙂

July 11, 2011 at 1:35 pmAmen to the baking soda, except I subbed soda for POWDER once! Let me just say that it was the most disgusting taste I had ever consumed.

July 11, 2011 at 2:17 pmaw! so sorry your electronics got wet. i bought this kwik tek waterproof bag to keep my Ipod and passports in last summer when we went on a cruise. it’s great for taking my stuff to the water park this summer.
as for the baking powder/soda issue, your walmart crack cookies have “powder” in the description under the picture but “soda” in the picture and on the ingredients list! talk about really confusing us! 😀

July 11, 2011 at 2:23 pmOne time, I didn’t have time to check my bag with ALL my undergarments in it, so I traveled with just the pair of underwear and bra I was wearing. I ended up having to make an emergency stop to Victoria’s Secret right after I landed.
Hope your kindle/laptop is okay. :\

July 11, 2011 at 2:27 pmNoooooooooooooooo! The fire thing is scary! Did something end up burning?
Mary @ stylefyles
July 11, 2011 at 2:28 pmOh, I substituted fire for water in my mind. I think the fire photo underneath is what prompted the mixup. Wet can be just as bad though! I hope your laptop/kindle still work!

July 11, 2011 at 2:44 pmhotels are terrible at stealing possessions! once, when i was little, i got a new teacher barbie doll on the way to a vacation. i left her at the hotel, and i still haven’t gotten over it (that was at least 15 years ago haha).

July 11, 2011 at 2:58 pmI always have this fear of leaving things in a hotel. I’m worried that someone else will be walking around in my things & this makes me sad!

July 11, 2011 at 3:37 pmKindle support is amazing, even with accidents. Call them (not amazon support) and see if they can help you out. If they don’t overnight you a new one, they might get you one at a discount! Btw, they totally sell waterproof bags on Amazon. I don’t have one yet, I just put mine in a Ziploc bag at the pool and torment my son and husband by looking like a dork 🙂

July 11, 2011 at 3:55 pmNumber 4 and number 5 sound especially bad. I’m sorry. Let cookies solve your problems!

July 11, 2011 at 4:10 pmOh Jenna! Hope they can be repaired easily and quickly!
We are a little OCD about leaving things when we stay away from home! When we are done and packed, ready to drive away, my husband goes back into the room for a final check! And often finds something! And we have labels on our power cords and computers and such, so they can call us if we forgot it!
Some retail therapy to buy new undergarments is in order! Did you call the hotel and ask them to send them to you, or put them aside for your next trip back?
Enjoy your cookies!

July 11, 2011 at 4:49 pmI was going to say the same.
Like listening to the radio on blast while driving and forget that there are actually cars around you – slamming on your brakes within inches of the car ahead…not a good idea. Beside the obvious accident and money at risk – uh, it can induce cardiac arrest….
I hope your electronics are safe! Y’see – you shouldn’t be having technology when you go on trips! 🙂

July 11, 2011 at 4:45 pmOne time when I was little I wanted to make cookies but we didn’t have any brown sugar. Not knowing the difference I quickly made some with white sugar and cinnamon. Brown sugar, right? My mom was not impressed when she came down to supervise!

July 11, 2011 at 5:02 pmyikes! exactly the reason I don’t put things in drawers at hotels, yet still check them all before I leave (just a little bit OCD). But those cookies look like Cake! and Cake! makes everything better (I hope!)

July 12, 2011 at 3:18 amI substituted baking powder for baking soda last night!! They were THE WORST muffins I have made in my life and I had to end up throwing out the batch (after blogging about it, of course).

July 12, 2011 at 3:18 amHahaha 🙂 I laughed so much when I read about the undergarment in the hotel drawer! That’s the exact reason I never unpack at hotels – I’m so afraid of forgetting it.
Beautiful picture the first one!

July 12, 2011 at 4:48 amTOO funny — I traveled for years on the road and NEVER used the dresser in hotel rooms because you always forget the stuff in the drawers — my husband constantly uses them and constantly forgets stuff!! Thanks for the laugh ! 🙂

July 14, 2011 at 4:25 pmUgh Fish sauce is SOOOO nasty!! I know it’s a not so secret ingredient to delicious Thai food, but if I ever get a whiff of it, whether on its own or in a sauce, I just can’t do it. It’s like liquid butt. I can’t imagine what that would do to my fridge. I shutter at the thought!
I’d also add about the electronic equipment: You should never NOT check your pockets for electronic devices before you jump in the pool…no matter how hot it is!
