Happy Friday!!!
I’m so glad to hear there is some interest from my Cali readers on coming out to a Murphy-Goode tasting on Sunday, July 19th! I don’t have all the information right now but I do know that if you come on my behalf it is FREE (heck yeah) and it should be a really goode time. If any readers planning on attending could drop me an email, I will create a group so I can update you all on more information as I get it. Please come if you can; I need all the support I can get!! 🙂
Back to my morning. The alarm went off at 6:30 and I made a quick pre-run snack—
Standard. A piece of Ezekiel toast with raw almond butter + 1/2 naner. Fills me up without weighing me down!
I was SO excited this morning because it was my first run outside in months and my first long run since April. I wore my favorite outfit of Target running skirt, Adidas tank top, camel bak and ipod and was ready to run!
First thing I noticed when I got outside was how HOT and HUMID it already was at 7:00!!!!! Since I haven’t run outside since the spring I had sort of put Florida summer heat out of my mind but woah, it came back fast. I’m going to have to get up even earlier during the next few months to beat it, that’s for sure. Today I kept splashing cold water on my face and taking liberal sips, so that helped a lot.
I ended up doing 4 miles in 42 minutes, which was perfect for my long run pace. I put my pride aside and took a few walk breaks because I was nervous since I was running on asphalt for the first time (the grass was flooded). I’d rather save my legs and go slow than kill myself my first time back out. Gone are the days where I used to crank out 5 miles in 45 minutes. No sir. I’m not in this race to win, I’m in it to finish strong!
When I got back it was already 8:00 and I threw together a super Green Monster to refuel!
This bad boy had 2 pieces frozen cantaloupe in it, the other half of my banana, tons of fresh spinach, 1 scoop Pom Mango Amazing Meal, about 1/3 cup blueberries, 1 cup vanilla soymilk, 1 scoop raw almond butter and ice. It tasted amazing!
This morning I am getting my hair highlighted!!!!! I am SO EXCITED! Is it just me or does getting your hair done totally improve your look and mood? I haven’t gotten full highlights for two years and I thought it was definitely time. No cut or anything, just the highlights. I’m going to bring a book and just veg out!
And now, for a product review!!!
It seems like I haven’t done a product review in FOREVER! For awhile I was doing so many of them but then when John died I sort of took a break for awhile. I’ve actually never done a skincare product review before so I was very, very excited to receive generous samples of Avocate Skincare in the mail for me to review on the blog.
Avocate Skincare uses the active benefits of organic avocado to help rebuild lost collagen and add luminous qualities to the skin. It works with your skin’s natural chemistry to actually reverse the first signs of aging and add lost volume. Pretty cool, huh?
Today after my shower I tried the Avocate Skin Perfecting Body Lotion. My first thought was, wow this smells amazing! It smells like you are in a garden or something with a light perfumed fragrance of ylang ylang, jasmine and frankincense. The lotion hydrates your skin for 24 hours with aloe vera and avocado oil, which was huge for me because I have very dry skin (excluding my face). I used the lotion on my legs after shaving and they instantly felt quenched….not itchy or dry at all. Also, the lotion instantly absorbs into your skin, which is great because who wants white streaks on their legs as they walk into work? Not I.
I look forward to testing and reviewing the eye repair, body polish and skin glow next! Thanks, Avocate!

July 10, 2009 at 9:35 amHi Jenna, I was wondering how much time you wait in between eating and running? When I ran a couple marathons two years ago I ate PB on toast, and was fine. But the last time I did that this season, I had TERRIBLE stomach cramps! Maybe I didn’t wait long enough? I’m wondering what you think works best for you!
jenna
July 10, 2009 at 9:42 amMarathonVal,
I have a tummy of steel usually (knock on wood) so I usually only wait, like, 15-20 minutes before running and I’ve always been fine. I just can’t have anything huge or heavy but toast always works!

July 10, 2009 at 9:38 amHey jenna!
this is amanda (lunch date to daily eats amanda!) I hope you’re doing well! I have an internship in NH this summer so ive escaped the florida heat! Definitely shoot me an email when you’re in Miami because I’ll be back at the beginning of August! Good luck with Murphy-Goode by the way! And ps do you get your highlights from Aveda? I got mine done there and they came out great if you needed a name recommendation! Take care!

July 10, 2009 at 9:41 amHi Amanda!!

July 10, 2009 at 9:54 amWow, that line of products may be for me too. Do you often find that your skin is just itchy because it is dry, even when you put lotion on normally?
by the way, I want your camelbak… now! LOL.
Have a great day!

July 10, 2009 at 9:59 amI hear ya on the hotness. I have to save my long runs for late at night or super early in the morning otherwise the sun just sucks ALL the energy out of me. I’m glad your run went well – sometimes new workout clothes are the PERFECT motivation 🙂

July 10, 2009 at 10:02 amWay to go with the run today!! Isn’t it an amazing feeling getting out and stretching the legs and really getting some miles on your legs after being laid up from an injury for so long?!?! Just take it S-L-O-W, it’ll be better in the long run!

Nice job on the run, glad it went smoothly! I give you FL girls credit – I complain about how hot it is when it’s 70 – I can’t IMAGINE how you ladies do it!

July 10, 2009 at 10:05 amCongrats on your run Jenna!!! You were definitely right to take it easy and make sure you weren’t pushing yourself on the asphalt. There will be more runs, but in the mean time, you have to keep that body strong! Either way, I’m totally impressed! 🙂

July 10, 2009 at 11:10 amFab run! I love that pace. Okay, I can’t go any faster (yet), so that’s why it’s very admirable to me.
Have fun gettin’ your hair did! I’ve never had highlights or coloring and haven’t had my hair cut since Nov. 2007, so I can’t say going makes me feel any better. A new dress always does the trick for me, though!
Katie
July 10, 2009 at 11:12 amGlad to hear you had a nice run!
That lotion sounds incredible. I’ll have to look into it. I’ve been really interested in more natural beauty products lately and the smell sounds like something I would love.

July 10, 2009 at 11:15 amthat lotion sounds fantastic. i’m a firm believer in avocado/olive oil doing wonders for hair and skin.
congrats on an outdoor run! you’re taking such a safe and intelligent approach to this journey. (unsurprising since you do that with everything in life!)

July 10, 2009 at 11:17 amHi, Jenna. You have me intrigued with all the green monsters so I bought some Amazing Meal when they were running your special. I made one last night for the first time and it was fabulous. One question: you always mention a “scoop” of the powder. Mine did not come with a scoop. How much should I use? I used a coffee measuring spoon for the first one but thought it really should have come with some sort of measure. Any thoughts?
Matt
July 10, 2009 at 11:17 amI wake up at 5 to run and beat the heat! You will get used to it after awhile!

July 10, 2009 at 11:21 ami love getting my hair done! it just makes you feel better somehow. if only it didn’t cost so dang much, i’d get highlights every couple weeks. oh good lord.
katherine (the runner wife)
July 10, 2009 at 11:34 amThanks for reviewing the Avocate line! I’ve been looking for more natural products and I, like you, have dry skin (except for my face). I also hate when lotions feel greasy for a long time after you apply. I usually end up using an oil or something b/c it seems to absorb faster. Must be why the Avocate lotion soaks in so well!!
Glad you had a good run 🙂
emily
July 10, 2009 at 11:35 amCongrats on the good run! I’m trying to get back into running shape too and it is hard to trade fast for careful, even though I know it’s the right choice.

July 10, 2009 at 11:38 amWhat time is the wine tasting??? That sounds FUN!! By the way, the Murphy-Goode blogger search is featured on today’s home page of the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper!!

July 10, 2009 at 12:55 pmYay for running outdoors! I am such a baby when it comes to running in the heat…luckily it never gets too hot (or cold!) where I live.
Hey, do you think Amazing Grass might offer a discount online again like they did for your readers before? I think I’m finally ready to jump on that bandwagon…but my frugal side is making me stay away!
RunningBetty
July 10, 2009 at 2:04 pmEnd I feel your Florida pain. 80 degrees + 88% humidity! I don’t know how my husband and daughter do it every day. But they say it takes 7-10 runs to get used to…
Joelle (The Pancake Girl))
July 10, 2009 at 2:14 pmCongrats on your run, wooo!
Annie
July 10, 2009 at 2:16 pmOMGosh I am just sooo excited for you Jenna! You’re going to do an AMAZING job at that interview this weekend! Just show um what you got!!! 🙂 Congrats on the run today! I usually do my runs on the treadmill because for some reason I feel really self conscious when I run outside. I really need to get over that though because running outside is such a different experience and I really do enjoy it!
Thank you for forwarding my concerns about the Amazing Meal to Amazing Grass. I actually got a reply from whoever your contact is there and they explained why the big tub comes unlabeled.
P.s. I know what you mean about the highlights! Getting my hair done always makes me feel fabulous! With all those cute new clothes and that great hair you’re going to TRAMPLE the competition! 🙂
