Today has been a really great day so far! I cranked out four pages of the book this morning and Caitlin read the first chapter on the bike at the gym…she’s the very first person to read it besides my editor!
The good news is that she says it’s not crap! π And now I only need 28,000 more words! Woohooo!
We also started planning Healthy Living Summit 2010! It’s that time of year again….Caitlin and I have conference calls with some companies next week about it and I’m getting excited. We haven’t picked a city yet for sure but have a few ideas…
I sipped on tea all morning and then snacked on TJ’s trail mix (this stuff is literally crack in a bag):
And then went to my Power Bootcamp class! It’s really funny actually. Most of the time, it’s just me and Anna (the studio owner) so I feel like I’m getting a 45 minute personal training/yoga-butt kicking workout. Anna was actually a personal trainer for something like 13 years and we were laughing today because she was saying how practicing handstands is the ULTIMATE cardio workout (as in, blows the elliptical a-w-a-y. Duh). You use all of your muscles and your heart pumps like whaaaat. Our workout today started out with a series of fast paced Sun B salutations, leap-switch crescent lunges, jump squats, handstands, forearm balance, headstands to full wheel, leaping crow poses, side planks and some twists. By the end I was literally shaking.
Came home a ravenous beast and almost tore this open with my teeth from the freezer:
Alongside the wrap, I had a salad topped with hummus and lemon juice and 2 big stalks of celery. My lunch was very green today!
I liked this wrap a lot. I had only tried Amy’s burritos before and this Indian wrap was a pleasant surprise. It was stuffed with spinach and tofu and was very filling!
For dessert, I had a kiwi which I ate like an apple. Obvi.
Back to the drawing board!

January 14, 2010 at 1:59 pmItβs not crap? My sources tell me Caitlin’s actual words, re: your book, were, “I did 37 minutes on the stationary bicycle while reading a draft of Jennaβs memoir/cookbook. Itβs good! I canβt wait to buy it.” (http://www.healthytippingpoint.com/)

January 14, 2010 at 2:01 pmA Blogger Summit sequel? Hope there are more than 100 slots this time…and that you reserve Gigi and Lulu as guest speakers π

January 14, 2010 at 2:06 pmim not sure if i missed this post, but what is the focus about your book? memoir? how will you make it stand out against the other food books/memoirs out there?
please dont misread or take my questions out of context or tone, im just wondering. how has 20 something years given you enough interesting material to write about? isnt your life so public that people could just read past posts?
Katy @ These Beautiful Feet

January 14, 2010 at 2:23 pmJust like everyone else, I’m going to comment that HOUSTON TEXAS would be a great place to have the Summit. However, I also think it might be fun if it happened in San Fran, maybe even in conjunction with the half-mary/marathon? Wherever it is, its destined by a huge success!
Barbara
January 14, 2010 at 2:27 pmOHHHH may I suggest Austin, TX for the next summit? The flagship store for Whole Foods is here and it’s a pretty fun, fit city:)

January 14, 2010 at 3:40 pmI’m pretty sure running is a better form of cardio than practicing handstands, but to each her own!

January 14, 2010 at 3:41 pmThat wrap looks delicious! Thank you for alerting me to its existence.
Congrats on the book productivity! The headstands must also help with getting blood and ideas to flow to the brain.

January 14, 2010 at 5:08 pmgigi – you are hilarious! You really don’t think someone in their 20s could have a life experience valuable enough for a book? If you think people can just learn about Jenna’s life by reading past posts, then why don’t you try it? Then maybe you’d know what her book is about.

January 14, 2010 at 5:54 pmWow Gigi….if people in their 20s aren’t interesting enough to write a book, we’re ALL just a bunch of boring peeps, aren’t we?
Jenna, your book is going to be OUTSTANDING and I can’t wait to buy it! Writing is a passion, and pursuing your passions/talents at any age, especially a young one, takes courage, confidence, and a great deal of determination. And you got a BOOK DEAL! Props to you!!!

January 14, 2010 at 6:10 pmyou can eat the kiwi with the fuzzy part? srsly? if so, i’m going to try that, as i hate peeling kiwis.

January 14, 2010 at 6:17 pmLOL TO GIGI’s comment haha – if you had to be a certain age or have a certain life experience, there wouldn’t be many books or novels out there girl!! π
Y’know I hardly peel anything now – don’t see the point…don’t think it’s good for gut or digestion – but it can’t get any worse than it is I suppose…WTG with the book – again jealous, but practicing Ahimsa π

January 14, 2010 at 6:28 pmWow – I was quite surprised to see the responses to Gigi’s comment. In my opinion Gigi was very respectful and asked a perfectly reasonable question. I was very much looking forward to see if Jenna would answer. In particular, “how will you make it stand out against the other food books/memoirs out there?” is a very intelligent question and one that I, and I’m sure many others would be very eager to hear the answer too. There are COUNTLESS food books and memoirs flooding the market, and I would be interested to hear how Jenna intends to ensure her book stands out. In fact, I’m sure that’s something everyone who reads her blog would be interested in hearing about.
Calling Gigi “hilarious” and laughing at her in my opinion is extremely condescending. She never said that just because Jenna is in her 20s that her life experience isn’t “valuable”. Every time I hear about a young celebrity, be it an actress, singer, food blogger, etc writing a “tell all” book or a “memoir” often the first thought that crosses my mind (and many other people I know) is “they are barely beginning their life – why write a memoir now – why not wait until they have lived more, experienced more”. (Please also note that I am only 19 years old myself – it’s not like I’m some old grandma sitting here thinking “these youngins don’t know what they are talking about” !) Sure, I KNOW that just about every 20 something is going to have wonderful experiences and life lessons to write about – but in all honesty, in 20 or 30 years time, that same person will have SO MUCH MORE that they have learned and experienced, so much more to share with the world. And I’m implying that that I think Jenna shouldn’t be writing this book – she has accomplished a LOT and been through a lot, and I personally would especially love to read about her time in Paris, but I can understand where Gigi is coming from and think it is a perfectly reasonable question to ask someone writing a “memoir” style book at such a young age. (Please note I am aware it is not only a memoir but also a cookbook.)
I never usually comment on blogs but I felt the need to in this situation as I am constantly frustrated that on so many blogs when a commenter asks a question that may be challenging the post author or is not filled with gushing and praise, other commenters feel the need to belittle that person or post comments telling the blog author to “ignore” the comment instead of letting the blog author address the question or comment directly.
