Sometimes I get fed up with fashion trends. I mean, neon? Really? In my opinion, highlighter should be left in 10th grade. However, I’m all into the color blocking trend that’s going on right now. Mainly because I love to wear bright colors anyway! Like I need any more of an excuse to rock bright blues, yellows and reds. And when I found this amazingly retro blue pencil skirt at a local thrift shop on Sunday, I knew it was to be. Not only does it fit like an absolute glove, but it’s my favorite shade of bright blue.
Oh yeah, and it was two bucks.
I wore this outfit on Sunday night when Adam and I ventured out on a little dinner date. Fried chicken for him, grilled proscuitto wrapped peaches for her. Love.

July 26, 2011 at 9:00 pmI didn’t either, so I looked it up on google. This is what http://makeupandbeauty.com said:
“Colour block fashion is one of the hottest new trends for the season. It combines the use of two or more blocks of colour in an ensemble. This could be for a top, bottom, tunic, a dress and even a handbag or shoes. Simply it means – creating an outfit by putting areas or blocks of solid color next to each other. It can include monotone, bright colours, muted colors, contrasting and complimentary colors. Clothes, shoes, handbags and accessories can all feature color block designs or can make up different blocks of color to be put together for a color block outfit.”

July 26, 2011 at 2:43 pmhahah funny – I am the exact opposite of you. I’m angry at color blocking (more the concept of it than the actual use of it) Basically I feel like it’s something that’s always been done…..someone just gave it a name and put “color-blocked outfits” in rapid succession on runways, magazines, blogs, etc. effectively turning it into a trend. How is this even new? People have been wearing colors-upon-colors forEVA!!!!
On the other hand I find neon to be infinitely rad. It’s even cooler AFTER 10th grade….true words.
Love your outfit! But I won’t call it color-blocked. I’ll just say it’s cute =)

July 26, 2011 at 4:31 pmI love your blog and have been reading faithfully for years, but I have to say I’m always crestfallen when I click over to see that it’s another post on your outfit. Too much focus on fashion recently, IMHO.
jenna
July 26, 2011 at 4:41 pmI appreciate your constructive criticism, but have to say you “always are crestfallen”? I’ve only ever done outfit posts twice! 🙂
Janelle
July 26, 2011 at 7:04 pmYou look amazing, don’t get me wrong…but I’m (less dramatically) with Chelsea on this one – I prefer when it focuses on food. Perhaps a fashion tab? Because clearly you have fashion sense, I just prefer buttercream. 🙂 But hey, it is your blog, do with it what you wish!
Chelsea
July 26, 2011 at 7:29 pmOk, perhaps “always” was a bit dramatic, sorry bout that! 🙂
I guess the actual outfit posts have only been twice, but I guess I was also thinking about some recent posts that you’ve shown your closet, talked about shoes, tops you’ve bought, linked to fashion blogs, etc.
Shelley
July 26, 2011 at 8:57 pmI love your fashion posts (I’m fashion-tarded, so I love seeing cute outfits using clothes from stores I actually shop at), but it does kind of stray from the theme thus far of your blog. I like the fashion tab idea (would that continue to show up in my Google Reader?? b/c that is my main concern).
ashley
July 29, 2011 at 10:47 amBut..but…its her blog, she can do whatever she wants with it right? If the title of the blog reflected ONLY food, I could understand people questioning the fashion posts but its eat LIVE run…basically covers everything 🙂 I personally dont think this strays at all from the blog theme. Also I think Jenna had a post a while back either asking us what we would think of her adding fashion posts or saying she was going to start incorporating them as part as her blog and she explained why. There are plenty of food only blogs out there, maybe you could explore them if fashion isnt your thing? Whats so bad about fashion posts anyway..Its fun! Ps. Jenna I love this blue outfit, the clutch is to die.

July 28, 2011 at 9:38 amGorgeous! Love the pencil skirt…looks almost like J Crew? I have this one I bought on clearance from them in the late spring-its wool so I can’t wear it till next winter but its in a color they are calling “Bright Dahlia” it’s a bright fuchsia/pink color! I am not sure what color to wear it with other than black or navy….
J Crew Jackie cardigans are pretty much perfection, aren’t they? I love that color you have on too.
Was the picture taken at the square in Healdsburg? or perhaps Sonoma? Thanks for reminding me I need a visit to both soon…
