Mornin’
This morning when I woke up my legs did not want to cooperate with me. Yesterday at the gym I did a leg portion of Summer Shape Up and….it worked. I haven’t felt soreness like this in years (but then again, I haven’t done calf raises in years). I’m actually more sore today than I was after my Century bike ride. What gives? It’s very love/hate, actually. On one hand I love the fact that I worked hard enough to get this sore in only about 25 minutes but on the other hand, I’m cursing everything in my path because every step aches.
Needless to say, I wasn’t so keen on going to the gym again this morning but I knew half the battle was just getting there. It’s funny, really. Ever since my epic bike ride I really have so much more drive and confidence when it comes to exercise. I know that I really can do anything that I set my mind to. I wrote a reflection about this on Friday, here, if you missed it.
I ate something really small before exercising this morning (a packet of instant oatmeal with a scoop of peanut butter) and then hit the Y for back, shoulders and chest + 30 minutes of elliptical. Surprisingly the elliptical felt rather good because it loosened up the rubber band muscles in my legs.
And then I pounded this down in victory.

June 8, 2010 at 9:57 amSorry you’re having a tonsil crisis! Have you ever thought about getting your tonsils removed? I’m currently recovering from mono, but I had my tonsils out 5 years ago and I’m convinced that mono was much less painful because of it! Maybe try a salt water gargle– that’s my dad’s go-to throat remedy 🙂

June 8, 2010 at 10:03 amI am almost entirely sure your mom will be promptly taking you to the clinic . . . that’s what mom’s are for right! I’m on my way to the gym right now, somehow I do calf raises once a week and my legs always hurt two days later. Surely they should be broken in to that exercise by now shouldn’t then?
Heather (Heather's Dish)
June 8, 2010 at 10:06 amget better soon girl! just remember…if you go to the clinic and get stuff to make you better, then you’ll get better sooner! prayin’ for ya 🙂

June 8, 2010 at 10:11 amerrr…that sounds pretty sick! :-/ I hope the swelling goes down! Your smoothie on the other hand sounds super refreshing and looks delicious! 🙂

June 8, 2010 at 10:11 amI hope your throat/tonsil gets better soon! I am sure it will be great to be with your mama though!

June 8, 2010 at 10:13 amI would definitely go somewhere and get it looked at before it gets worse. If it is truly growing, you do not want to get into trouble breathing. Do you have a temperature?
jenna
June 8, 2010 at 10:24 amNo temperature… I don’t think so at least…I honestly feel fine! SO weird.

June 8, 2010 at 10:14 amDid I miss the post where you introduce this new dog? Is he yours, or your boyfriends? I’m so confused!!! Is he a permanent addition to your fur family??

June 8, 2010 at 10:21 amVery charming pup! When long ago got swollen tonsils/sore throat gargled with hot salt water. Helped heal it fast and made it feel better. Am sure it will be better by your B-Day!
Freya @ Brit Chick Runs
June 8, 2010 at 10:24 am3 days before your bday? Yeah, that is bad timing! Maybe you should go to the doctor in case, and then they might be able to prevent it exploding on your birthday!?
laura
June 8, 2010 at 10:25 ama few years ago (2 days before my birthday, in fact) one side of my throat grew a golf ball – it was weird, I didn’t feel sick, but the bump was kind of tender and made it hard to swallow; turns out, I had an abcess (aka infected puss-ball) on my tonsil. It was gross, but they just had to poke it with a needle and drain it and I was fine. hopefully whatever you’ve got will be equally easy to take care of, and even less ick!
Courtney
June 8, 2010 at 10:32 amHmmmm. This happened to me a few weeks ago. One side of my throat was just huge and swollen and red and sore and it was hard to swallow and it was so weird. I went to the doctor and they said it was just huge and swollen and red and sore and hard to swallow and isn’t that weird? A few days later, it went away. I hope you don’t have to waste the co-pay like I did, but you should if you’re really worried!

June 8, 2010 at 10:32 amYou’ve got to listen to your mom! Anyway, if you want to be top shape for your birthday, you rather be sick now and well in a couple days, no? 🙂

June 8, 2010 at 10:43 amJenna, why on earth are you going to the gym when your tonsil looks so ominously swollen? I’d really rest for a few days until it clears up!

June 8, 2010 at 10:56 amThe smoothie doesn’t sound boring to me at all! This is perfect smoothie weather. With that said, I hope you find out what’s wrong with your throat SOON.

June 8, 2010 at 10:57 amTake it easy. I know that hating every step feeling. My PT is busting my butt trying to build strength so I could barely go up my stairs for days. Feels great to know you are working but I wanted to scream.
And the puppy looks so happy.

June 8, 2010 at 10:59 amSorry to hear the tonsil is still bothering you, hope you and your mom can get it sorted out without a trip to the ER!! Wishing you a speedy recovery!

June 8, 2010 at 11:32 amWhatever your mom says, do it! They’re the best.
I have had my tonsils swell up like that all the time – it can be from allergies. I live north of you, but the allergies here are worse than in decades. Maybe it’s from the huge pollen count?
In any case, Mom knows best. And when the boy is freaked out, it’s usually time to go to a doctor. Take care!

June 8, 2010 at 11:46 amI love and hate that day after sore feeling…unfortunately, for me, it seems that the really intense soreness doesn’t hit till 2 days later so I usually think I’m in the clear when I’m really not.
I hope you start feeling better in preparation for the birthday!
Kristina @goodnweird
June 8, 2010 at 11:49 amFeel better! It’s so weird how changing up your workout routine, even when you were working crazy hard before, allows your body to work different muscles. I was so sore last week after a speed workout on the track, even though I could run miles and miles with no consequence the following day.

June 8, 2010 at 12:06 pmIt’s so good your mom is coming to visit. Mom’s are the BEST when your sick.
I love to swim when my muscles are really sore. It loosens up my muscles really well. That plus a dip in the hot tub or a sit in the sauna 🙂
Hope you are feeling better soon! Steroid shots in your throat sound super scary.

June 8, 2010 at 12:18 pmOh no this is awful timing! I really hope you don’t have to go to ER, that won’t be a good bday pressie. Hope you feel better soon.

June 8, 2010 at 12:21 pmHonestly, I think you either have tonsillitis or strep. You can have strep and feel fine. I did.

June 8, 2010 at 12:28 pmIs it bad that I now want to see what your tonsils look like?
I’m a sucker for gross stuff. In a previous life I must have been a surgeon or something…

June 8, 2010 at 12:44 pmGlad your mom will be there today to make you go see a doctor! My guess would be an abscess! I will have to watch you on twitter to see if you are ojn your way there!
Get better quickly! Good for you to go to the gym when you are sore! I stay away and just try to stretch at home for a few days!
And again…have a great week with mom!

June 8, 2010 at 1:07 pmOh man. I hate to hear your throat is still swollen. Hopefully it isn’t bad enough to warrant another steroid shot!
I too love that sore feeling the next day, unless it’s my hamstrings. I always hate having sore hamstrings. Yet they always seem to be the first thing that gets sore. sigh…

June 8, 2010 at 2:43 pmDoes the maca give you energy? I have some in my cupboard but I don’t know how much to use, and I am not sure if I am going to like the taste. Can you really tell a difference when you use it?

June 8, 2010 at 2:51 pmI literally just had step throat. No fever, no other symptoms except wickedly swollen tonsils. I finally went to the doctor after about 5 days of super painful swallowing and he took one look in my mouth, said my tonsils were covered with patchy white strep, and gave me steroids to shrink my tonsils, and an Rx for antibiotics. My advice is just to go the doc and get it over with! I waited and waited and waited and all it did was get worse.

June 8, 2010 at 3:40 pmFirst time commenter over here! Love your blog! I’m doing the Fitnessista workout and feel soooo much better knowing that I’m not alone! I did legs last Friday and I was in REAL for real pain for about 4 days!! I have never been that sore before! I could hardly walk up and down stairs, it was ridiculous. Gina has really kicked our butts huh!
