So great to hear everyone’s thoughts on Yosemite! There will be tons of photo taking, fo sho’. Of course I have been researching the surrounding area all morning and found this place, which seems to be near to where we are staying. An earlier email to the boy goes as follows:
“I know we are technically camping and all, but perhaps cocktails here?”
Cocktails while camping is perfectly acceptable, right? I really don’t see a problem here. He did not respond to my email.
Anyways, back to today before I get all carried away. I went on a great two mile run outside and then stopped at the gym to lift some weights. This was the first time I’ve run outside in….months! Definitely since before my Century. I’ve been running a lot on the treadmill, but it’s been more in the form of sprints and HIIT (high intensity interval training), so it was fun to actually get outside for change of pace (hah).
Lunch was a Trader Joe’s salmon patty wrapped up in a sprouted wheat wrap with goat cheese, sugar plum tomatoes, spinach and honey mustard. With a squashed peach on the side.
Heading out the door to meet my writing partner to workshop some new stuff and then off to a meeting at work.
Later gators!

June 30, 2010 at 12:12 pmIf you go to REI, they have a Platypus (Camelbak style) specifically made for wine! And it’s always necessary to carry a small flask of vodka, just in case it gets really, really cold and you need to warm your insides π

June 30, 2010 at 12:39 pmHmmm…i’m still voting for cocktails out on the patio at the Ahwahnee. That way you can get the full Yosemite experience of cocktails at Yosemite whilst dodging Stellar’s Jays and brushing chipmunks off your shoulders…lol.
The Mountain Room is quite nice though….I had a yummy trout almondine there once….maybe you can do both?

June 30, 2010 at 12:41 pmI love HIIT. It’s my favorite cardio – quick and dirty!

June 30, 2010 at 12:42 pmAre those salmon burgers good from Trader Joe’s? I almost bought them but then put them back!

June 30, 2010 at 12:43 pmcamping without cocktails…is there such a thing? I wouldn’t want to live in a world that this wasn’t acceptable in!! WHOA great sounding wrap! All of my favorites all neatly rolled up! Love it!
Ann @ Appalachian Appetites
June 30, 2010 at 12:44 pmCocktails are a definite!!
Jess @ MTL Veggie
June 30, 2010 at 12:44 pmCocktails, or alcoholic beverages of any kind, while camping are pretty much mandatory π Hope you have an amazing time in Yosemite!

June 30, 2010 at 12:49 pmRunning outside is the only way to go, so much funner then a treadmill.

June 30, 2010 at 12:50 pmCocktails while camping – why the heck not!? I think one deserves the luxury of cocktails if they have to scrum it in a tent π
Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman
June 30, 2010 at 12:50 pmI went to Yosemite years ago, but I loved it. Itβs so peaceful there. And, yeah, cocktails count while camping. Itβs that or boxed wine.

June 30, 2010 at 12:52 pmI’m delurking to say: Make your own cocktails round the campfire! It is better than ANY restaurant when it comes to ambiance! (Also? The romance factor? Off the charts!)
And if you happened to be stopping in Boise….. π
Heather (Heather's Dish)
June 30, 2010 at 1:07 pmcocktails, wine, beer—however you look at it, alcohol MUST be involved!

June 30, 2010 at 1:10 pmLove that you’re adding some “fancy” to your first camping experience π That a girl! While you’re at it, I suggest also checking out Tenaya Lodge and Ahwahnee Hotel!
I’m jealous of your trip….Yosemite is awesome and cocktails + campfire = heaven π

June 30, 2010 at 1:19 pmMy idea of camping is in an air conditioned RV with a shower, tv, and computer. Roasting weenies on the fire? No, thank you. I’d rather go down the street to that great restaurant! I am totally not a camper. The only two times I have tried have been in bakcyards. The first time, I ended up sleeping in a car. The second time, I ended up in the screened in back porch. FH hangs his head in shame about this.

June 30, 2010 at 1:20 pmCocktails during camping is more than acceptable- it is probably necessary! I know I would need some help with outdoor plumbing, lol.

June 30, 2010 at 1:36 pmThat wrap looks delicious!! And I think cocktails are NEEDED when camping…although I’ve never been; too girly! lol

June 30, 2010 at 1:37 pmcocktails and mountains obviously go hand in hand, i mean cocktails were probably created after a girl went camping π

June 30, 2010 at 2:14 pmGirl, one of the best parts of camping is drinking a BUTT LOAD of red wine. Seriously.

June 30, 2010 at 2:19 pmYour wrap looks like you got it at a restaurant. Very pretty! I think it’s perfectly acceptable to go to that restaurant while camping. π

June 30, 2010 at 2:24 pmJealous!! It’s been sooo long since I’ve been to Yosemite. I did Half Dome when I was in high school and am ITCHING to do it again, seeing as how that was 7 years ago now!! Yikes π

June 30, 2010 at 2:43 pmI’m pretty sure you’re supposed to drink beer but believe me I am FAR from being a camping expert seeing as I do not do camping

June 30, 2010 at 2:55 pmhehe I am the opposite – I ran ON the treadmill for the first time in months….I prefer outdoors so it was a struggle run for me!

June 30, 2010 at 3:52 pmThat wrap looks delicious from Trader Joes! Does your TJ’s have a cafe section or was it just already prepared like that in the store?? Have a great trip!
Cynthia (It All Changes)
June 30, 2010 at 4:06 pmIt wouldn’t be your kind of thing if you couldn’t combine your favorite things. When I go to “camp”(not camping) I need comforts (not alcohol since I don’t drink) or I’m not happy.
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down)
June 30, 2010 at 4:18 pmI almost bought those same exact salmon patties today. Ha…now I wish I would have.
I can’t wait to see all the gorgeous pics that you’ll be taking. How exciting! π

June 30, 2010 at 4:43 pmOkay, I am officially bummed! I am in Yosemite right now, but I’m leaving on the 2nd so I see no blogger meetup in the near future π
It is gorgeous here, you will love it!

June 30, 2010 at 5:44 pmi miss running outside..i can only do it on the weekends since NY drivers = fast/aggressive drivers = deadly runs haha. glad to hear you got a great 2 miles in.

June 30, 2010 at 6:40 pmI’m with the poster who said cocktails on a deck at the Ahwahnee. Always think it’s fun to hike brains out, get sun burned, dusty, sweaty, then do a 360, shower throw on something slightly more stylish and go have a romantic cocktail in a architectural treasure–thereby getting the full experience. Then all that’s missing is a bear stealing your s-mores.
In honor of the fact that King Tut’s penis has apparently gone missing–thought to reprise this for a giggle (hehe):

Can I just say, I’m glad I’m not the only one that doesn’t put pictures of my boyfriend on the blog!! Not sure what your reasons are…I have mine (or he has his!), but it’s just interesting to see that vary from blog to blog. The end. π
