Happy Friday!
Y’all this is totally not a “real” recipe. I made them last week because I found myself very randomly craving old school rice krispie treats. I mean, they’re so good, right? They’re definitely a classic for a reason. I don’t think I had made them in at least fifteen years and forgot just how magical the simple combination of marshmallow, butter and rice krispies is.
I decided to jazz these up with some festive Valentine’s Day sprinkles and white chocolate chunks. They turned out super cute and I think they’d just be perfect to pack in lunchboxes for a special treat next Thursday.
If you’re new to the rice krispie treat world, all you do to make these is melt down some marshmallows with butter…
…until you have a smooth marshmallow cream on your hands {literally, if you’ve been taste testing!}.
Just pour that goodness right on top of your krispies and then add your mix-ins: in this case, white chocolate and Valentine’s Day sprinkles.
Let the whole thing cool slightly then slice into squares. Such a fun little Valentine’s Day treat!
White Chocolate Valentine’s Krispie Treats
adapted from the original Rice Krispie treat recipe
makes about 12 squares
Ingredients:
3 tbsp butter
1 package (10 oz) large marshmallows
6 cups rice crispie cereal
1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips
3 small bottles Valentine’s Day sprinkle mix
Directions:
Butter an 8 x 8″ glass dish well.
In a large pot, melt the butter. Add the marshmallows and melt over low/medium heat until smooth. Pour the melted marshmallow and butter mixture over the rice krispies and mix. Add the sprinkles and white chocolate and mix until everything is combined (this is easiest if you have wet or buttered hands).
Press the rice krispie mixture into your buttered dish. Let cool before slicing into bars or squares.
Time:
20 minutes

February 8, 2013 at 3:43 amI definitely think that these deserved a post of their own. I LOVE Rice Krispie treats. And the store bought totally will not do. This is adorable and these may in fact be making their way into my kitchen this week 🙂

February 8, 2013 at 4:50 amAh a classic! Rice Krispie squares were a huge part of my childhood. When my family and I moved to the Middle East, my sister and I attended a British international school and I guess our classmates hadn’t grown up with Rice Krispie squares like us Canadian kids did. On ‘international day’ (where we were allowed to go to school in our national costumes… which for Canada, isn’t the most interesting!), my sister brought in a big pan of Rice Krispie squares in the shape of the Canadian flag. Her friends thought they were absolutely amazing and they all begged her to bring in more!

February 8, 2013 at 4:53 amMmm…I haven’t had rice krispie squares in FOREVER. Such marshmellow-y goodness.
Happy weekend Jenna!

February 8, 2013 at 5:01 amMy mom used to make these all the time (minus the chocolate and sprinkles) growing up! She actually still makes them for family parties because my dad loves them so much. I love the little additions you put in these 😀

February 8, 2013 at 5:16 amToo cute and too pretty! I will have another go at these—any time I make rice krispie treats…it’s pretty much a hardended up disaster in a 13×9 inch baking dish. Oh, and there are no ‘neat cut squares’ in sight. Looking forward to trying YOUR recipe!
Thanks! Happy Friday! 🙂

February 8, 2013 at 8:27 amRice Krispie squares have been on my mind since a friend made them for the Super Bowl! Must be something in the air. I always make my squares with 2x the amount of marshmallows. Probably because if gooey is good extra gooey is fab.

February 8, 2013 at 8:29 amI love love love RKTreats. Like, they’re my thing. I will never tire of them no matter how old I get and yours with white chocolate are great. I’ve lately been browning the butter I use for them and it makes such a difference! Yours look so gooey and wonderful!

February 8, 2013 at 8:43 amI love Krispie squares! A pan of them doesn’t last a day in our house. We had guests from Japan for dinner a few years ago and we served krispie squares for dessert (along with several other tasty sweets). They were quite the hit!
