I got the idea for this post from my friend Gina, who started a wonderful series of fashion posts on her blog. Let it be noted that Gina is, and always will be, way more fashionable than me. My usual attire consists of stretchy black yoga pants and old sorority t-shirts splattered with tomato sauce. I’m really not that cool.
However, despite my inherent uncoolness, I still love to shop. Sometimes, a little too much. But, hey, I’m a girl and that’s what we do…right? So here’s a few of my favorite closet items right now.
1. Silence & Noise navy boyfriend blazer from Urban Outfitters
I wear this with jean shorts, skirts, jeans, pants, dresses…pretty much anything. I love the funky print and the fact that it’s casual enough to throw on over jeans, but nice enough to dress up any outfit.
2. Cotton printed scarves from Urban Outfitters
I wear this with t-shirts or tank tops in the summer. It’s still pretty chilly at night in NorCal, so lightweight scarves are the perfect cute option with jeans.
3. Old Navy sundresses
I wear this with clunky Target necklaces and a lightweight button down sweater….or over a bathing suit! These dresses are only about $10 and can be worn for numerous occasions.
4. J.Crew striped cardigans
I wear this with anything and everything! I have an obsession with stripes and guess I am lucky right now since it’s apparently in style. I don’t know if J.Crew currently has this exact cardigan, since I got it on sale a few weeks back from an outlet store, but there’s some comparable sweaters in the store right now.
5. “Colorblock sandals” from Gap
I wear these with sundresses, skirts and shorts. They are super comfy and really cute!
6. Ruffled tank top from Banana Republic
I wear this with jeans, jean shorts and skirts. It looks like silk but it’s not! That means no dry cleaning tears or sweat prickles. I love the cute ruffles and the flattering fit of this top. I got it from the Banana Republic Outlet a couple weeks ago but have seen some tops just like it on clearance right now in the store!
What’s a “must” in your closet now?
Ps–wedges in first photo are from Banana Republic. I like to wear them while frying chickens.

May 11, 2011 at 1:11 pmAs for my closet, I adore dresses from Patagonia. Bright and floral, yet at the same time super-durable. The kind of clothing that you can not worry about, always rely on, and have last for ages.

May 11, 2011 at 1:15 pmI LOVE those wedges at the top of your post! For some reason my boyfriend hates wedges though. IDK what’s wrong with him, but if he can accept my converse sneakers, I think he can deal with me wearing wedges occasionally. Your sandals from Gap are adorable too. I wish I didn’t work in a lab where I had to wear closed toes shoes on weekdays :-(. I should take pictures of my closet. People might die seeing how much clothing/shoes I have…

May 11, 2011 at 1:25 pmAren’t boy the weirdest creatures ever? My husband will tell me he doesn’t like a dress that I really want to buy, as he stands there in a tshirt from high school and cargo shorts, for goodness sakes!

May 11, 2011 at 1:27 pmYou have great style, all this stuff is kind of adorable. (Esp the blazer..love.)
My staple right now is pencil skirts. I wear them almost every day bc I’m super tall and I think they’re the most flattering. I’ve actually put myself on a pencil skirt buying freeze…it was getting a little out of hand…

May 11, 2011 at 1:33 pmFun post! A must have for me right now is scarves. A pretty printed scarf can make a white tee, jeans and flats look so chic – and they’re especially great since it’s still a little chilly in Boston. I also have a new-found love for stripes, can’t get enough of them right now.

May 11, 2011 at 1:41 pmOoooh I have the same scarf and I LOVE it! Is there nothing more genius than a circle scarf? Recently my millions of other scarves get ignored for that one and a multicolored Madewell scarf.

May 11, 2011 at 1:55 pmThis might sound a little lame, but could you do a little tutorial on how to put on a scarf so it looks casual? Thanks! The favorite things in my closet are cute, casual skirts by Aventura from sierratradingpost.com. They run a size big though if anyone is going to order.

May 11, 2011 at 2:03 pmI love everything you’ve posted! Right now I’m obsessed with my Blue Sea necklace from Anthropologie (one of my favorite purchases ever since it dresses up the most casual of outfits), a striped J. Crew cardigan (very similar to the one you posted), and the Mariposa tank from Anthropologie. I just want to wear anything remotely springy all the time now.

May 11, 2011 at 2:15 pmVery cute.
By coincidence, today I did a post on ‘I Love Your Style: How to Define and Refine Your Personal Style’ by Amanda Brooks, Fashion Director of Barneys….etc etc etc.
LOVE this book and only $19. very good investment, excellent clarifying ideas. Have always loved classics as was in a profession that paid (literally) to dress with some elegance. But after reading this decide love ‘Minimalist’ even more–although all the category looks are fun to read about–it’s what fit the person. ie Bohemian, High Fashion, Street, Eclectic, Basis, Cheap Chic, Designer, Vintage, etc.
