Talk About Crazy

Woahhhhhh talk about a CRAZY day!

Ryan and I started off the day at our friend’s party, which they have every year and is super fun because everyone goes! Ryan’s parents were there along with all of our friends and we all just chilled out, had some drinks and ate yummy cuban sandwiches while we watched the boat parade!

Leslie, one of our friends who is expecting her first daughter (!!!) in May, made this aaaaaamazing non-alcoholic sangria, chock full of apple and orange slices. I tried a sip and was completely hooked so I had about 1.5 glasses. I tasted Ryan’s mixed drink but honestly the non alcoholic stuff just tasted a whole lot better to me and was so refreshing!

The cuban sandwiches were cut really tiny into about one inch slices, perfect for party finger food. I think I had about five of these, which seems like a lot but it didn’t even equal a regular six inch sub! I love a good cuban sandwich and these were awesome.

I also had an amazing sugar cookie topped with sprinkles. I don’t know what it is about regular ol’ grocery store cookies, but sometimes they just get to ya! This was super chewy and I relished every crumb.

And then around 3:00 we started walking. And walking. And walking some more. We probably walked a SOLID five miles total, from the island over to the mainland and then around everywhere! Check out the view from the bridge as we crossed it:

Honestly, I really did not enjoy the parade very much. I have never been one for huge crowds (especially with wasted people everywhere) and this was definitely no exception. I can’t even tell you how many people (YOUNG people), I saw throwing up on the street or peeing publicly. I think the saddest thing I saw was a guy sitting under the bridge throwing up with his pants down while his friends just laughed at him. I’m not trying to be a snot or a stick in the mud, but its really not my cup of tea and I don’t think that sort of thing is funny at all!

We walked around to several parties and hung out with all our friends, which was a lot of fun, but when 5:00 rolled around and Ryan and all his buddies were headed to yet another crazy block party, I decided it was time for this girl to take it on home. I really wasn’t planning on not drinking AT ALL today, but that is what happened. I had those two non alcoholic sangrias and then just drank the smart water that Ryan bought me. As yall probably know by now, I’m not a huge drinker anyways and I hate to feel a lack of control, especially when surrounded by 5,000 people! And I am SOOOOOOOOOOO glad I DIDN’T drink today. Even though I’m tired from walking around all day, I feel a heck of a lot better than if I downed 10 cocktails.

I started to get pretty hungry so for dinner I just reheated the remainder of last night’s salmon and had it with broccoli, fruit and a slice of my oatmeal bread that I had toasted and smeared with some smart balance:

I have NO idea what will be happening for the rest of the evening. I’d actually like to lay low but need to talk to Ryan to see what the deal is. We are supposed to go to a party with all the pirates at 7:00 but its all sort of up in the air.

Have a great night everyone! I will see you tomorrow! =)

Alcohol does N0T agree with my stomach or my head and I actually get SERI0USLY like, dizzy and scary uneasy when I drink more than like, 1 oz of wine, no lie. It kind of sucks. (0KAY, IT SUCKS.)

Anyways, I, too, would N0T find that funny, at all, and I get v. overwhelmed (I’m an introvert) in those types of sitchies! Homebody alert! =]

Ah that looks like SO MUCH FUN! I’m always up for going out and having a good time but people who are sloppy drunks (i.e. what you saw) shouldn’t be allowed to drink. That kind of stuff is just gross!

Grocery store cookies are always tempting! I wanted one of those sprinkle cookies just looking at the pic. I am not one for big crowds either, but it looks like fun!

I avoid large crowds/gatherings as much as I can. I hate that feeling of being all crammed in and not being able to get out if you needed too! I feel the same way in crowded restaurants, always makes me feel rushed!

i love sangria!!!! : ) can we get a third for the posting of the recipe?

i also hate it when i see people who are too wasted for their own good. i dont know what is so “fun” about getting like that or why people dont think of the consequences before they do it!

Sounds like a cool event. Too bad some sloppy drunks were taking away from the fun.

Your cuban sandwiches remind me of when I used to visit my grandparents in Florida! We always took Publix cuban sandwiches with us to the beach. 🙂

I’m so jealous! Sounds like an awesome time. As for the drunk dude…ehh, if it’s truly Florida’s Mardi Gras…shouldn’t be too unexpected. Hopefully he’ll learn his limit for next time!!

I agree about large crowds. I HATE them!!! Especially when it’s a bunch of drunk people…or sweaty people…EEW!! I just have no patience for that and I definitely do not think it is funny. Ans as I’m getting older, I am realizing that I don’t really like drinking too much either. Good for you for not drinking all day!
