Morning, morning!
Just was g-chatting with Kath…..can’t wait for the Foodbuzz Conference the weekend after next!!!!!! I know a bunch of y’all will be there and I can’t wait to meet you and play in the City. This time I want to see the sea lions!! Woohoo!
Anyways, had a GIGANTIC bowl of oats this morn’:
Sorry for the less than perfect flashy picture….my camera is seriously seriously about to DIE and it’s all I can do to snap the quickest shot possible.
LOVED this oaty combo!
- 1/2 cup oats
- 1 cup water
- 1 banana
- ~1/2 cup greek yogurt
- 1 baby honeycrisp apple
- almond butter!
It was seriously overflowing with deliciousness. Just the way I like it.
I’m about to get dressed and go to church! Going to try out the church that my Wednesday night small group is part of. After that, I’m meeting my friend Michaela for brunch here and then attempting to put together a Halloween costume even though I have no idea what to be yet. We have a big Halloween party at work on Thursday night….I just don’t know…any ideas?!

October 25, 2009 at 8:23 amI’m big on the famous couples for Halloween. Last year my friend Jake and I were Jackie O and JFK. In college my roommate and I were a “couple” every year and two of our best were a pregnant Britney and K-Fed and Anna Nicole Smith and her first husband (the old man) Jay Howard Marshall, complete with bathrobe and IV. I’m sure you will think of something great!

October 25, 2009 at 8:35 amWhere can I find baby honeycrisp apples? All the ones I find are the size of my head!
I have no clue what I’m gonna be for halloween… I’m working on it though…

October 25, 2009 at 8:51 amI’m going as God’s gift to man…. I’m dressing up as a present and wearing a tag that says “TO MEN, FROM GOD”… just wearing all black and buying pink ribbon…. I think it was the easiest/least expensive costume I could come up with haha.

October 25, 2009 at 9:04 amI hope the church feels like a great fit for you! You could go as a food blogger! Put your chef hat on, your camera around your neck and carry a whisk. Talk about easy!

October 25, 2009 at 9:28 amI love the oats even without a perfect picture.
I like the grapes idea 🙂 Perfect for your line of work but might get in the way of pouring wine.

October 25, 2009 at 9:29 amI still need something for Halloween, too. I have a giant chicken costume I’m thinking of using. I was the same thign 2 years ago and I hate to reuse costumes but it was an expensive one!

October 25, 2009 at 10:05 amI always just try and throw something together with things I have – then might buy a few accessories. Look in your closet – do you have a shirt or dress that could work for something? Yesterday I just found a white and black striped shirt and I decided I think I’m going to be a criminal! Just buy cheap black shorts, and walah!! hehe

October 25, 2009 at 10:46 amCostume ideas-
-In Santa Barbara I hosted a darling Japanese exchange student, Miyuki, who was attending UCSB & needed a last minute costume. We went to 2nd hand stores and found a gorgeous strapless pale pink gown, tight top, full multi-layered tule skirt. Bought angel wings/halo/magic wand. Truly magical. She now has two adorable little girls, sent me a pix of them in the same kind of outfit.
-Wear all Audrey Hepburn sleek black as in ‘Funny Face’ jazz club dance. Add sandwich board sign ‘Blog 4 Food/Wine.’ Strikes me as funny w/contrast of your sunny personality/looks & how we usually view sandwich boards, and how everyone is a blogger today-but few with your stats. Cheap and easy.
-One of my last minute/inexpensive/successful costumes was a cowgirl outfit. Went to Britex in San Francisco [amazing 2-story fabric/trims place in Union Sq] got white fringe. Attached w/velcro to hem of mini-denim skirt found in 2nd hand store + denim vest. Added neckerchief, boots, sherrifs badge, gun 7 holster & cowboy hat borrowed from neighbor boy. Was very cute.
-Another time went as a ‘Midsummer’s Night Dream’ like character with the gauzy look of bronzed colors that go great with blonde hair + it had incredible shimmery beading. Did big hair with autumn leaves and glitter, and glam makeup in the same colors/style that copied from still from M.N.D play. This was for a big ball & appropriate, but would be cumbersome for work unless scaled down.
-Since Healdsburg is germanic could go as a Heidi-esque milk maid.
-Or, more appropriately as ze French Gurrl since you hav’ zat striped top jest need ze beret and ze short skirt/flats/tights and ze eyeliner/red lips/beauty mark, carry baguette, adopt ze attitude of Piaf since vous dit ‘Non, je ne regrette rien.’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFRuLFR91e4
Find Eiffel Tower totem to pin on top/purse/beret…’Just Jewels’ on Unions Street [in Cow Hollow as opposed to Union Sq] probably has them…altho am sure somewhere up there, too.
Bonne chance!

October 25, 2009 at 10:52 amI always take the “go as your favorite celebrity w/a funny twist” route. One year I went as Bette Midler and ended up meeting her that same night (long, long story). It was pretty memorable.

Whatever you choose, I’m sure you’ll look adorable. That seems to be an inescapable look for you, Jenna!

October 25, 2009 at 11:21 amI just bought things today to make a sushi costume. I’m going to wear a white shirt and basically strap an orange pillow to my back with a big green ribbon. I’m also going to make a headband that looks like ginger and wasabi. Seems like it’s something you would like. I also live in Indiana so I doubt we will run into each other in the same costume. Good luck picking something out 🙂

October 25, 2009 at 12:52 pmAwww, sea lions…The last time I was in San Francisco I told my boyfriend I wanted to cuddle the sea lions, which he promptly replied with, “I think they would bite you.” Anyway, pictures would be great. We never did get around to seeing them on our whirlwind trip.
PS – Flapper costumes are usually pretty simple and always cute. That’s my costume of choice this year. You could also go as a whino which would be pretty funny considering your job.
Jenny @JennyLikesToRun, on a mission to run a marathon for charity!
October 25, 2009 at 1:06 pmYummy oats 😀 Guts about your old camera though 🙁
Ummmm, halloween costume ideas…. You could dress up as something cute and funny like a chicken? lol
Or go as Jillian Michaels or some other butt-kicking famous personal trainer 😀
Marina
October 25, 2009 at 1:12 pmI’ll go as Cat woman. Well, at least I hope so. I need to find some latex pants 😀

October 25, 2009 at 2:05 pmIf you’re going to be in SF on a Saturday, you should go to the Farmers Market at the Ferry Plaza and get a porcetta sandwich from Roli Roti… It is SO delicious!!! But you have to get there a little early (1130 am) because sometimes they run out of the good bread 🙂
You’d also love the restaurant Delfina. Everything is fresh, and their grilled fresh calamari with warm white bean salad is to die for! They cook their calamari to perfection!!!
Sometimes we drive all the way from LA just for the porcetta sandwich and Delfina… It’s so worth it!!

October 25, 2009 at 4:36 pmPart of my job actually includes heavy coverage of Halloween costume trends a couple months out of the year, so I can tell you that Superheroes, vampires and anything that deals with current movies and/or the media are popular.
However, given your current situation and company, I say you go with some type of clever wine get-up. I don’t know the “inside” wine lingo, but you could dress up as some sort of tool or bottle of something specific…grapes with some punny joke?

October 25, 2009 at 4:49 pmLOVE G-CHAT! 😀 It’s great.
Also, that bowl of oats looks super amazingly, awesome! (And kind of like something I ate the other day!)

October 25, 2009 at 5:12 pmOne of my favorite costumes was Rock em’ sock em’ robots..just make an outfit with whatever color one you are and write on the back of your shirt either “Red Rocker” or “Blue Bomber” and get a friend in on it. You can mittens in either red or blue too as your hands and just randomly “fight” each other throughout the night. It was easy and people loved it!

October 25, 2009 at 5:56 pmEven after reading all the creative comments, I still think that going as Balloon Boy would be awesome. 🙂
Allie
October 26, 2009 at 5:44 amWhy dont you find a smallish box and cut out the bottom and pull it up around your waist and then tie two silver helium balloons to the back of the box and go as balloon boy!!!! 🙂
Rachel
October 26, 2009 at 5:56 amI LOVE Halloween and I am a big fan of “thing” costumes, not “people” costumes. Since you love food, you should be a food item! I am going as sushi this year, but I saw an amazing ear of corn costume that almost makes me want to do that!!

October 26, 2009 at 6:26 amI hope you have a great time in the city! I am in San Francisco quite a bit for work (I live in Virginia though) and I have a few favorite places to recommend if you have time. There is an awesome sporting goods store next to Crissy Field on Mason Street (at the foot of the Golden Gate bridge) called the Sports Basement. They have a ton of workout gear, shoes, bags and even a whole section of workout food like Larabars and Clif bars. I’ve gotten so much stuff there! If you find a “Bay City Guide” (most hotels have them) you can get 10% off coupon. Or you can show your gym membership card (if you join a gym) and get the discount too.
I also go to an accupressure place in Chinatown (on Jackson St-cross street is Grant) for the best foot massage ever. It’s almost painful but I leave feeling like I have new feet. They have good prices too-I usually get an hour and a half for $67, but they have 40 min and hour options too).
I hope you have a great time!
Tracey
October 26, 2009 at 7:43 amCave woman? Just hit the fabric store for some fake fur, I made one easily with no sewing (we tied it together with leather like strips, or even make strips from leftover fur), some Flinstone like cheap jewelry, mess up your hair and tie in a few little bones or get a wig with same….I won best costume at two different parties with mine 😉 (hubby was Cave-man) Can’t wait to see what you end up with!!

October 26, 2009 at 12:54 pmI know this is so late but why don’t you go as your blog? eat live run.
eat – have a fork and knife. maybe a napkin tucked into your shirt
live – maybe a cut out heart on your shirt
run – put on some running gear
Elizabeth
October 26, 2009 at 3:26 pmI think you should go as a carton of oats! It would be easy to make that, with a big piece of cardboard rolled around you…

October 26, 2009 at 7:38 pmPin those little round candies called Smarties to your jeans and – voila – instant “Smarty pants” costume!
